This is the opening track from Chicago VIII, featuring a double tracked drum part from Danny Seraphine. It can be really hard to decipher what he played on each pass for this recording as the drums are not panned hard left or right, but I tried to interpret how Danny would've approached this the best I could given how he overdubbed on other notable tunes such as 25 Or 6 To 4 and Feelin' Stronger Everyday. This quick tune from Tower of Power's "In The Slot" features what is one of the most involved David Garibaldi grooves in my opinion. There are small portions that are linear, while there are other snare and kick accents that align with the hi hat part. It would be so interesting to hear how the guys came up with their parts for this as I imagine they jammed it in the studio for awhile as they worked it up. It is so tight! From a recent gig in Wildwood, NJ with the Three and One Band. I try my best to catch a lot of what Phil Collins plays on the original, but my main focus is really trying to land his feel.
