AUDIX FP7 MICROPHONE PACK

Tate is currently using Audix microphones in his recording space at home, and during live gigs when needed. The microphones he uses come from the FP7 Microphone pack, which features the "Fusion Series" microphones by Audix. The f6 is a large dynamic microphone perfect for bass drums with a frequency response from 40 Hz to 16 kHz. On the snare, is the f5 which can also be used for many other acoustic instruments as well, with a frequency response from 55 Hz to 15 kHz. In addition to the kick and snare microphones, the pack also has 3 f2 microphones, designed for toms with a frequency response from 52 Hz to 15 kHz. To capture the cymbals and the overall kit are the f9 small diaphragm condenser microphones with a frequency response from 40 Hz to 20 kHz.

"The audix microphones I am currently using for recording and live performances capture the natural sound of my drums, and I rarely have to make drastic changes to my drum sound when mixing. The f6 kick drum mic picks up the attack of the drum, but also the right amount of resonance I like from the low end. The f2s come with easily adjustable mounts that allow me to position the mics in the best place to get the most natural sound from my toms. The f5 has worked for all the different snare sounds I get for any type of recording I'm doing, whether I'm going for a high crack, a low punch, or somewhere in between. My cymbals and kit sound great through the f9 mics, and I often use them in a "recorder-man" type setup if I want a more organic sound from the kit, and they never fail! In addition to the Audix mics I own, I occasionally use an Audio Technica AT-2020, which is a large diaphragm condenser microphone, as a mono room mic."

FOCUSRITE AUDIO

The 3rd generation Scarlet 18i20 from Focusrite allows Tate to easily record his drums with a professional sound into Logic Pro X. With 8 XLR Inputs that have preamps featuring lower noise and increased gain, he can record with small and large mic configurations depending on the situation and always get a great sound. He also uses the control software that comes with the interface to get a balanced headphone mix when recording.

"The 18i20 has allowed me to multitrack my drums and get the best natural sound possible when recording. I can easily set and check the levels on my own with the small LED screen on the front, which makes recording sessions nice and efficient. When recording other instruments, I can easily switch out mics or cables with little adjustment needed on the interface to still get a great sound. I can't think of a better professional sounding and looking interface to use as I continue learn and experiement while recording."
