VIC FIRTH STICKS
Drum Sticks
Tate has been playing Vic Firth drumsticks ever since he started studying drums, where he used his favorite drummer's signature stick: Steve Gadd. Since then, he has acquired and used many different models to accommodate different musical and style situations in his career. "Currently, I've been really digging the David Garibaldi 'Jam Master' sticks, as they allow me to have power and reach whether I'm playing matched or traditional grip when I'm playing heavier music like rock or blues. The Erskine 'Big Band' stick allows me to get great definition out of the cymbals when playing jazz, and their balance makes it easy to play fast at a lower dynamic. Vic Firth sticks have always had the answer for any musical challenge I may have, and they never let me down at the gig!"
Brushes
In addition to drumsticks, Tate also uses many other products from Vic Firth which further expand his musical possibilities. "When playing with brushes, I use the Heritage brushes as the rubber grip has a great feel, and allows for versatility in different styles such has having to play rim shots or different types of grooves. In other lighter dynamic situations, I use the 'Rute 505' multi-rod sticks. The plastic bristles are indestructible and still allow for a nice attack on the drums and cymbals, without the volume getting too loud. I also enjoy the different type of textures they give to my sound on the drums." All of Vic Firth's products allow Tate to play through a wide catalog of styles, and help him expand his sounds beyond just regular drumsticks on the drums and cymbals.
